Principal's Message

A Note from the Principal
March 10, 2017

Thank you to our PTA for a wonderful week!
This week our PTA sponsored and organized our annual Torrey Hills Jogathon. What a success! Students were so happy to participate, so many volunteers were able to help, and the sun was shining. Thank you to all families who were able to support and make contributions to Torrey Hills during the Jogathon. This event is the primary fundraiser for our school in order to provide our students with the extra materials, tools, and learning environment features we would like them to have. Our PTA also sponsored the parent movie night showing of "Screenagers". This compelling and informative movie was well received last night by a full house. We appreciate the thoughtfulness and support of our PTA in bringing this important perspective to our community.

Parent Teacher Conferences Early Dismissal Begins on Monday
Please remember that next week students are dismissed at 12:30 every day. We are on a minimum day schedule to allow for parent teacher conferences. Please also remember to truly celebrate the progress your student has made so far this year.

Daylight Saving Time begins at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 12
Remember to move your clocks one hour forward (later) on Sunday. We will see you on Monday for the Torrey Hills Monday Morning Meeting.

Third Graders find "The Right Biome" in Today's Musical Performance
Torrey Hills Third Graders sang like superstars in their fabulous performance of “Biomes: Animals and Plants in Their Habitats.” The costumed students acted out their parts and taught all about many different biomes and the wonderful creatures who live in them.

Making Connections: Third Graders Field Trip to Agua Hedionda Lagoon
Third graders at Torrey Hills had an exciting opportunity for hands on learning about biomes as they explored various animal adaptations at the Agua Hedionda Lagoon. They discovered how animals camouflage and have adapted to survive in their habitats, took a beautiful nature hike down to a wetland, and even got to pet a live Chinese Water Dragon. Some brave students even wrapped a real live snake around their neck!

San Diego Science Festival
Last Saturday, our fourth and fifth grade students made valuable contributions to science at Petco Park duing the Expo San Diego Science Festival. Prior to the event, Torrey Hills was awarded a grant as a winner of the The Bright Idea Society sponsored by BIOCOM Institute. This inspired to continue their work. Students devoted themselves to design, build, and display interactive science projects. Hundreds of people visited the Torrey Hills booth and appreciated the quality of the students' projects. Our students were very excited and proud to share their work at the Expo. Congratulations to our team of scientists!

Rubik's Cube Competition Tomorrow
Our students will compete with their Rubik's Cubes at Cal. State San Marcos in the Arena Building. The first team will begin at 11:25. It is always a very exciting event. We wish our students good luck and good speed!

Pasta for Pennies
Our Student Council is sponsoring Pasta For Pennies this year to help raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society so that we may improve the lives of people who need our help. Students will begin this community service project on March 20. Please look for information in the next week.

Have a wonderful weekend!
