Family
Bill and his wife Monica have lived in Carmel Valley since 1985, raising three sons who all attended Carmel Del Mar Elementary School. They chose Carmel Valley to raise their children because of the exceptional reputations of the Del Mar Union School District (DMUSD) and the San Dieguito Union High School District.
Education
Bill attended public schools in San Diego County before attending San Diego State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He then followed his dream of becoming a teacher by earning a teaching credential and Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from California State University, San Marcos (CSUSM). As a life-long learner, Bill continued his education by earning a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership through a joint Ed.D. program at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and CSUSM.
Professional
Bill is a veteran of the United States Navy. For 16 years, Bill taught in the DMUSD in special education, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades at Carmel Del Mar Elementary School. In 2013, he became an elementary school principal in the Vista Unified School District retiring in 2023. Before retiring, he chose to teach 2nd grade for his last two years at an International Baccalaureate (IB) STEM magnet school finishing his career with over 26 years of service in public education.
Community Service
Bill has been a member of the Carmel Valley community for over 40 years. Bill is currently training to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for youth currently in the foster care system.
Board Responsibilities
Dr. Porter is currently serving his first term on the Del Mar Union School District Board.
